World Teacher’s Day is being observed on 05 October annually to show respect and love to the teachers.. It is also known as International Teacher’s Day. Based on the decision taken at the 26th session of UNESCO in 1994, by UNESCO Director General Dr. Frederick M. Mayer’s announcement, World Teacher’s Day has been celebrated with due dignity in all over the world including Bangladesh since October 5,1995.

In Bangladesh for the first time October 27, 2022 National Teacher’s Day was observed officially. But, September 4, 2023 in the meeting of the council of Ministers chaired by the Honourable Prime Minister, it is decided that instead of National Teacher’s Day, 05October will be celebrated as world Teacher’s Day flamboyantly all over the country in coordination with International Teacher’s Day.

This is the best honour for teacher professionals across the country and abroad. It is a special day for the appreciation of teachers for their special contribution in a particular field. According to UNESCO, the day is celebrated in recognition of the outstanding contribution of teachers to education and development. The purpose and aim of the day is to acknowledge, evaluate and raise awareness about the rights and responsibilities of teachers in providing quality education at all levels in social reform education. There goes a common proverb-“Education is the backbone of a nation.” Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” To ensure this education needs one who is teacher. That’s why a teacher is called an architect or maker of a nation and teaching is regarded as a noble profession or vow. A teacher teaches his students from the core of his heart. He plays an important role in building up an educated and prosperous nation. He teaches his students with a view to giving the light of education and dispels the darkness of ignorance from the lot of a nation. He is an actor. He has to suit his act according to the need of his audience which is his class. A teacher discovers the treasure hidden inside each student. By getting the light of education, students can enlighten their inside and finally their society. So, it is called that teachers at the heart of education recovery.

But it is unfortunate, in some cases the mentality of looking at teaching as a profession has not yet developed in our country. Government is trying to keep the teachers in good atmosphere in spite of various limitations. It is true to consider the past events of the teachers, present situation is somewhat better.

However, it is clear to us to make an enlightened and prosperous society, to ensure the quality education and for quality education we have to ensure sound teacher in physically, mentally, educationally, financially and finally socially. Nepoleon Bonaparte said, “Give me an educated mother, I shall promise you the birth of a civilized, educated nation.” But if we fail to make sure it, our all planes and development will be restrained.

In fine, it can be said that it is high time to take measures for being composed a permanent education policy, building up awareness and ensure the rights, skills, responsibilities and socio-economic status of the teachers respectively among all like- teachers, learners, guardians, mass people and finally the very authority. Then we will be capable to conduct the nation in righteous to attain sustainable development. Above all, best wishes to all the teachers and learners on this very day.
